Trinity Tigers had a good season, we ended the season with four total wins this year. This year we focused on building our team chemistry, developing our skill set and becoming well rounded players.  Our Tigers fought hard, prevailed through difficulty and truly gave it their all this season. As we head into our off season we will continue to build our team, get stronger and be better athletes all around . Let’s hear some words from our Head Women’s Basketball Coach Angela Richmond.

“We have a lot to celebrate, and even more to be grateful for as our 22-23′ season draws to a close.   I am extremely proud of the development of the players on my team as they continue to grow in their purpose. This team dealt with a lot of adversity and they handled it with very well.  We finished the season strong as we have evolved into a completely different team.  We have great momentum going into the next season, as we continue to progress forward.   There was growth on and off the court for our student athletes and I am extremely proud of them.  I’m already excited about next year because I know these athletes will continue to put the work in over the summer to get better for next season, and the best part is they all returning.”

Thank you to everyone who supported us along the journey, to our fans, families, Trinity Washington University, and Trinity Washington University Athletics Department.   The march to next season starts today, and the climb continues to get better each day as we continue to build and prepare for next season!!!

The crowd was energetic, the team was ecstatic, and this was the boost our Tigers needed to head into the next game vs Hollins with some momentum!  The Tigers displayed good teamwork, played with high energy, and had fun winning a home game in front of a great supportive tiger crowd.  Dominque Davis also received the “Eye of the Tiger” Award for her contribution.  The “Eye of the Tiger Award,” will be presented to our players at home games based of their performance.   These young ladies have set high expectations for the remaining games of the season.  Trinity Tigers put up a good fight vs Hollins but came shy of 9 pts in a loss to Hollins over the weekend with the final score of 67-76.

We talked to head coach Angela Richmond after the game Tuesday and here’s what she had to say “These young ladies have been dealing with so much adversity this year that they were deserving not only to win a home game but to have fun and do it in front of our home crowd.  They played together and it looked good.  We matured as a team this year and hopefully everything will transfer into the next game and next season.  They are getting better each game and winning at home gave them a lot of confidence to go into the next game.  I’m so excited, this is just the beginning of a new culture!”

Athletics Staff Updates

We are excited to announce that Christa Burgess ‘13 has been promoted to Athletic Director.

Christa Burgess has been on the Trinity Athletics staff since 2021, as Athletics Coordinator and most recently as our Assistant Athletic Director.  She has been promoted to Athletic Director.

Christa is a proud Trinity graduate, having earned her Bachelor’s Degree in Exercise Science.  While at Trinity she was a tri-sport athlete in soccer, basketball and lacrosse.  After graduating she continued to pursue her love for sports and fitness, working as rehab technician and as a personal trainer before starting her own business.  Christa later worked with a nonprofit organization focused on helping kids to stay active and build valuable life skills through play. This led her to return to school to earn a Master’s Degree in Elementary Education, which she put to use as a Health and Physical Education teacher and Athletic Director with DC Public Schools.  When Christa returned to Trinity, she quickly put all these experiences together to focus on supporting and engaging our Student-Athletes.  She has made significant contributions to our program, including strength and conditioning with our Athletes.

As Christa steps into the role of Athletic Director, she will continue to focus on Athlete development, and will take on coaching our newest sport, Lacrosse this Spring.

Mark your calendars for the upcoming Basketball, Tennis and Lacrosse contests this Spring!

Please reach out to Christa Burgess, Athletic Director; Nicole Shrader, Head Athletic Trainer with any questions related to Athletics.

The Trinity Tigers had a three-game span over the last week and half; competing against Notre Dame of MD, Apprentice and Central Penn. On November 19th the Tigers hosted Notre Dame of MD and came out with a vengeance. After one quarter of play the Tigers were down 15-18. Notre Dame made some shifts entering the second quarter and stunned the Tigers. The Tigers could not regain the momentum and the game ended with a final score of 43-84.

The Tigers had a quick turnaround as the hosted Apprentice right before Thanksgiving break. Once again, the Tigers came out hot but could not maintain their high energy as the game progressed The Tigers continued to fight but could not come out with the win;

Last night, the Tigers played their best game of the season as they hosted Central Penn. The Tigers came out roaring, winning the first quarter 18-17. Trinity had a small dip in energy to begin the second quarter but they fought back. After halftime the game stayed close and both teams continued to trade baskets. The Tigers could not regain the lead but they fought light tigers until the last second! There was a team effort to rebound the ball today and it showed as the Tigers finished the game with 40 rebounds.

Coach Richmond shared her thoughts after the game “ Tough loss, but to watch the team compete from  tip off until the last horn, made me a very proud coach! It’s the best we’ve played all season. We’ve been dealing with so much adversity this season, but the team always shows up to compete and I’m loving that! Watching my players celebrate each other let’s me know that we are going in the right direction as a program. They are having fun and clicking with each other on the court. I was very excited to see the crowd and fans in our school colors cheering us on; our administration even added halftime festivities. Last night was nothing but positive vibes!

The Tigers finished the game with 3 players in double figures; Taryn Yancey with 18, J’kaylah Beasley with 15 and Keisha Cooper with 11. We are proud to have finished with one of the better seasons in school history and we will work even harder to improve next season. I saw the ladies grow and improve over the course of the season and we have a solid foundation going forward.It was sad to see our seniors in their final game but I’m glad we finished with a win and sent them off properly. We all learned a lot on and off the field and we’re looking forward to next year!”
